Beaufort County Emergency Services responded to a phone call from a resident living near Blounts Creek, NC that they may have found a quantity of explosives in an old packing house (outbuilding) on their property.

    Beaufort County Emergency Services responded to a phone call from a resident living near Blounts Creek, NC that they may have found a quantity of explosives in an old packing house (outbuilding) on their property. The home owner further requested assistance in safely removing the possible explosive materials. Beaufort County Emergency Services staff contacted the Eastern Branch of North Carolina Emergency Management who coordinated with the US Army Fort Bragg Explosives Ordinance Detachment (EOD). The EOD unit responded and has successfully removed the explosives from the structure and taken them to a nearby site and successfully detonated the items without incident. "While this is not an everyday occurrence in Beaufort County it is another example of how three levels of government combined with First Responder Agencies handled a potential dangerous situation as a routine task." "Beaufort County Board of Commissioners wishes to express our appreciation to all those personnel and agencies who demonstrated their dedication and technical skills during this dangerous removal and disposal operation", states Randell Woodruff County Manager.

    The following agencies provided valuable assistance in this successful operation: Blounts Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Chocowinity EMS, North Carolina Division of Forestry, Beaufort County Sheriff's Office, Beaufort County Fire Marshall, and the Weyerhaeuser Corporation.

The city council has only made two official acts as of February 16, 2026
While this afternoon’s update once again included increased probabilities of moderate to major impacts, it will likely be tomorrow before we receive specific accumulation details.
Government and its bureaucracy are not perfect, and never has been in this self-governed society, here at the local level, at our state level, and at our federal level, therefore, it is incumbent upon all elected politicians to seek a comfortable level of representation for our constituents.
Beaufort County is implementing a new emergency alert system. All residents are encouraged to sign up to receive alerts via phone and email.

Has the local government acted responsibly and transparently?
Beaufort County Commissioners meet, and work by a majority vote to do the business of those constituents they purport to represent.
Waste, fraud, abuse and incompetence continue to govern county school budgets and decision making.

However, if one believes that Beaufort County government is in full command of the issues of our times, here locally, one might need to steel their resolve for a more perfect understanding of the intellect possessed by the Center-Left /Left Coalition.
To borrow a big phrase from this salient plan originating at the federal level, under President Trump's watchful eye, whose time has finally arrived, even here in the mispent realm of Beaufort County government(s).
We must vet, and elect those who will actually represent the people or we will be stuck with the same mess we have now.
