Press Release:

State, county and local officials watch as Russell Smith, chairman of the BCCC Board of Trustees, and BCCC President Barbara Tansey cut the ribbon at the Grand Opening on Monday, Aug. 13, of the new allied health and nursing building on the BCCC campus.

The 30,600 square-foot building - located on the eastern end of the BCCC campus - houses all of the college's health sciences programs including the Associate Degree and Practical Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technology and Certified Nurse Aide I and II programs. Previously, the programs were housed in three separate buildings. The new building includes three nursing laboratories, one nurse aide laboratory, one medical science laboratory, a 100-seat lecture hall, five classrooms, one computer laboratory and some 20 faculty offices. The building's costs of some $6.8 million were paid through grants and loans taken by the county and the college including a U.S. Economic Development Administration grant of $2.5 million, U.S. Department of Agriculture loans and grants totaling $3.3 million, a $200,000 Golden LEAF Foundation grant for a nursing simulation laboratory and state appropriations of $300,000. BCCC recently also received a grant of nearly $1 million from the Golden LEAF Foundation to update equipment used by Allied Health faculty and students.
