Beaufort Regional Health Systems welcomes five new doctors | Eastern North Carolina Now

While recruiting physicians may be difficult for Beaufort Regional Health Systems during its self-proclaimed financial crisis, at least we now know it’s not an impossible task. According to BRHS Medical Practice Administrator and Interim Chief Executive Officer Susan Gerard, the medical system will add five new doctors to its payroll within the next month and a half.

Of course, three of the five incoming doctors are replacing retiring or relocating physicians. According to Gerard, on Aug. 1, Dr. Andrew Clark will be replacing Dr. Andrew Oliver (relocating) as a locum physician at Obstetrics and Gynecology of Washington. On Sept. 13, Dr. Tom Andrews will be replacing Dr. Sandy Easley (relocating), also at Obstetrics and Gynecology of Washington. Sometime in early September, Dr. Paul Garcia from the Brody School of Medicine will be replacing Dr. Tom Penders (relocating) as the health system’s psychiatric director.

Two of the five, however, are additions. On Aug. 9, Dr. Jessica Triche will be joining Washington Family Medicine. On Aug. 30, Dr. Jeff Barwick will be joining Dr. Edward Birdsong’s orthopedic surgery group.

At the Beaufort County Medical Center Board of Trustees meeting on July 27, Gerard said she is actively looking for an internal medicine physician to replace Dr. Thomas Nicholson, who is planning to retire from his post at Pamlico Internal Medicine next January.

“I do have one candidate right now,” she said.

BRHS Director of Marketing and Public Relations Pam Shadle was able to provide a brief background of Dr. Jessica Triche and a short description of Washington Family Medicine. Shadle said she would send information about the other physicians and their corresponding practices as soon as possible.

Dr. Jessica Triche joins Washington Family Medicine

Dr. Jessica Triche received her medical degree from the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine in 2007 and her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2001. She completed her family medicine residency training program at Moses Cone Health System in Greensboro, where she served as Chief Resident.

Dr. Triche is a member of the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the North Carolina Medical Society. She has a special interest in rural medicine, women’s health as well as the Spanish language. She has experience as a Spanish interpreter.

Dr. Triche and her husband, also an ECU graduate, are currently living in Greenville with their infant son, with plans to relocate to Washington.

Washington Family Medicine provides comprehensive healthcare for the entire family, from newborns to seniors. Services offered include pediatric and geriatric care; gynecological care; minor surgical procedures; laceration repair; wellness, sports, school/college and CDL physicals; cardiac stress testing; and workers compensation.

Office hours are Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m. to noon, by appointment. Washington Family Medicine Center is located at 501 W. 15th St. and is currently accepting new patients.
