Virginia Republican gubernatorial candidate Glenn Youngkin has pulled ahead of Democrat opponent Terry McAuliffe with just days left until election day.

    Fox News reported:

McAuliffe receives 45 percent to Youngkin's 53 percent in a new Fox News survey of Virginia likely voters. Youngkin's eight-point advantage is outside the poll's margin of sampling error. That's a big shift from two weeks ago, when McAuliffe was ahead by five, 51-46 percent.

Likely voters are a subgroup of registered voters, identified mainly based on self-reported vote intention and interest in the election. Among the larger pool of registered voters, it's a one-point race: McAuliffe 47 percent vs. Youngkin 48 percent. Two weeks ago, McAuliffe led among registered voters by 11 points, 52-41 percent.

The poll pointed to an enthusiasm gap between Youngkin and McAuliffe supporters as being what has shifted the momentum of the race, with Youngkin holding a 10-point advantage. The race has largely focused on education.

The results from a separate poll released on Thursday also found that Youngkin was leading McAuliffe with just a few days left in the race.

    The Washington Examiner reported:

An internal poll found Republican gubernatorial nominee Glenn Youngkin ahead of Democratic former Gov. Terry McAuliffe by 4 percentage points, signaling significant gains in a competitive race for Virginia governor.

The Republican Winsome Sears for Lieutenant Governor Campaign poll conducted by co/efficient, provided exclusively to the Washington Examiner, found Youngkin with 47% support among likely voters and McAuliffe with 43%. Third-party candidate Princess Blanding had 5% support, and another 5% were undecided.

The Real Clear Politics average shifted in response to the latest Fox News poll with Youngkin taking a lead over McAuliffe, 46.7% to 46.3%.

Earlier this week, Youngkin took a shot at Democrat President Joe Biden when asked if he was worried about Biden campaigning for McAuliffe.

"I'm not afraid, I'll be honest," Youngkin responded. "You know, down the stretch here, Virginians are so focused on what their governor is going to do for them when I'm governor, and we're going to get our taxes down and we're going to get our job machine cranked back up, make our neighborhoods safe. And we are in fact going to make sure that our schools are teaching our children how to think and not what to think."

"You can't help but look at President Biden and recognize what a failed presidency looks like," Youngkin added. "I mean, you look at Afghanistan, you look at the border, you look at our economy, you look at the fact that everything he's doing seems to be making America worse, and I'm going to go to work and make Virginia better."
