News Release:

    Good morning,

If you are covering Kamala Harris' visit to Charlotte today, please consider the following statement from the Republican National Committee:

"Gaslighting North Carolinians and squandering their hard-earned tax dollars through the Build Back Broke lie that will worsen inflation, raise taxes and add hundreds of billions to our national debt is disrespectful and unproductive for the American people. Instead of trying to score political points on a taxpayer-funded PR tour, Kamala Harris should get back to Washington and work on solving the multiple crises facing our country." -RNC Spokeswoman Alex Nolley

    Background:

Despite her obvious failures at the border, with the withdrawal from Afghanistan and inflation Harris is using taxpayer dollars to go on a PR tour to get a political win instead of telling the truth about the Build Back Broke plan that will be detrimental to the economy.

  • Earlier this year, Joe Biden tapped Harris to lead the response to the humanitarian and national security crisis at our nation's southern border. As border czar, Harris has watched idly as the border crisis continues to worsen and spin out of control.
  • 164,303 illegal immigrants, including 12,807 unaccompanied children, were apprehended attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border in October - yet another warning that the Biden border crisis isn't slowing.
  • Illicit drugs are flowing into the country at an alarming rate, with 899 pounds of fentanyl and 15,631 pounds of methamphetamine seized at the southern border in October alone.
  • Harris says she had a key role in Biden's Afghanistan withdrawal decision, bragging that she was the last person in the room before the disastrous withdrawal was implemented.
  • Dozens of Americans are left stranded in Afghanistan, and Harris is attempting to salvage her dismal approval ratings rather than helping get Americans safely back to the U.S.
  • Historically high inflation under Biden is crushing American families, workers, and small businesses, yet Harris doesn't care.
  • Consumer prices rose by 6.2% in October compared to last year, the largest annual increase in 30 years.
  • Core consumer prices rose 4.6% since last year, the largest increase since August 1991.
  • Real average hourly earnings decreased 1.2%,with inflation eating up any wage gains.
  • Nearly everything costs more since last year, from gas (+49.6%) to kitchen staples like eggs (+11.6%) to used cars (+26.4%).

Biden and Harris have falsely claimed the Build Back Broke agenda would cost $0, wouldn't raise taxes on the middle class by "a single penny," wouldn't fuel inflation and wouldn't add to the debt, but each of these lies has been debunked.

  • On inflation: Economists across the political spectrum say that the bill will cause prices to spike even more:
  • Manhattan Institute senior economist Brian Riedl: The bill would "fuel inflation."
  • U.S. Chamber of Commerce Senior Economist Curtis Dubay: the bill will " undoubtedly worsen " inflation.
  • The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget's Marc Goldwein: "I expect inflationary pressures" from the bill.
  • Former Obama economic advisor Steven Rattner: "The administration should come clean with voters about the impact of its spending plans on inflation."
  • Former CBO Director Doug Elmendorf: The bill "will tend to push up" inflation.
  • Former CBO Director Douglas Holtz-Eakin: The bill will create "some additional pressure on inflation."
  • Bank of America's Ethan Harris: The bill will "create even more price pressure."
  • On economic growth and wages: The Penn-Wharton Budget Model found if Biden's dangerous agenda is made permanent (as the Biden White House admits they want the bill to be), by 2050 it would shrink the economy by 2.9%, cut wages by 1.7%, and cut workers' hours by 1.3%.
  • On the debt: The Penn-Wharton Budget Model found it would explode the national debt by 24.4% by 2050 if made permanent.
  • On taxes: The liberal Tax Policy Center found it raises taxes on 30% of middle-class families and would cut taxes for two-thirds of millionaires (especially those like Nancy Pelosi living in high-tax blue states) by raising the cap on the State and Local Tax deduction (SALT).
