Industrial Sewing and Upholstery Returns with Level II | Eastern North Carolina Now

    WASHINGTON, N.C.     The popular Industrial Sewing and Upholstery course returns this summer, with classes starting May 16. The 102-hour academy curriculum was designed in partnership with Diamond N-D Rough Upholstery at 221 West Main St. in Washington, N.C., where students will attend classes. The course was first offered in the spring and filled quickly.

    The course teaches the skills necessary to work in industrial sewing or furniture repair and upholstery. These skills are also in high demand with local boatbuilders for making seats, cushions, sails, and covers. Students learn to operate an industrial sewing machine, how to deconstruct and upholster furniture, where to find resources to start your own business, and local companies seeking employees with the skills learned from the academy. Students will be given a list of materials that they will be responsible for obtaining upon entering the class. Level I is a prerequisite for enrollment in Level II. An independent working lab is available to students currently enrolled in Level I or Level II, or to students that have successfully completed either level.

    Classes take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. Both Level I and II are covered under the Beaufort Promise, meaning that students can qualify to have their fees covered. Students can visit the Continuing Education Building (8) or call 252-940-6375 to register.
