Commissioner Jerry Langley Retains Chairmanship | Eastern North Carolina Now

The Beaufort County Board of Commissioners voted four to three to retain Jerry Langley as chairman of the board. Republican County Commissioner Stan Deatherage received the other three votes for the chairmanship. In some respects, the chairmanship has long set the tone for the Board of County Commissioners as coalitions are formed, and deals cut for an individual's political gain.

How else is it that 4 registered Republicans cannot field a Republican chairman of the board, when they have a Republican majority, and effectively never have.

Commissioner Al Klemm finally transitions to embrace the obvious - he is now effectively a Democrat, and fully demonstrates there shall be no turning back.

A short commentary:

The vote went down along party lines with Democrats: Robert Belcher, Ed Booth, Jerry Langley, and "Republican" - well, what the heck - RINO (Republican in Name Only) Al Klemm voting for Democrat Langley; while Republicans: Hood Richardson, newly elected for his first term, Gary Brinn, and Stan Deatherage voted for Republican Deatherage for the chairmanship.

If nothing else comes from this obvious political transgression: At least no one, with a full working brain, will ever accuse Mr. Klemm of being a real Republican. I'm certainly glad that we have finally established that which Republican insiders have known for over a decade.

Remember Comedian Jeff Foxworthy's iconic "you might be a redneck." In that same vein: If you believe that Al Klemm is a good and dependable Republican, you might be an idiot.

One must admit, this whole Al Klemm as a good Republican debacle is an outstanding qualifier as to how to judge the intelligence of his supporters, and right now, with the certain difficult days ahead, should one allow others to be influential, in any manner, if they just aren't very smart, or worse, are people of low character.

My wise mother always told me, "Birds of a feather flock together." Duly noted Mom.

Dateline, 12/4/2012 - 9:40 am: As I promised in the post of 12/3/2012, should Beaufort County Commissioner Gary Brinn's first vote as a county commissioner be a wise one, it is duly noted that he distinguished himself as a good Republican, while Al Klemm did not.

There is hope that Commissioner Brinn will develop into a trustworthy Conservative, and I will cheer along his progress as is merited.
