Tillman, Soucek to Chair Senate Committee on Education/Higher Education | Eastern North Carolina Now

Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) announced Monday he plans to reappoint Sen. Jerry Tillman (R-Randolph) and Sen. Dan Soucek (R-Watauga) as co-chairmen of the Senate Committee on Education/Higher Education when the legislature convenes early next year.

    Raleigh, N.C.     Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) announced Monday he plans to reappoint Sen. Jerry Tillman (R-Randolph) and Sen. Dan Soucek (R-Watauga) as co-chairmen of the Senate Committee on Education/Higher Education when the legislature convenes early next year. Tillman and Soucek will also serve with Sen. Tom Apodaca (R-Henderson) as co-chairs of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Education/Higher Education.

    “Under Sen. Tillman and Sen. Soucek’s leadership, we passed major education reforms to strengthen student literacy, improve graduation rates, reward effective teachers and give parents tools to make better informed decisions about their children’s education,” said Berger. “I look forward to continuing to work with Sens. Tillman and Soucek to pass new policies and, together with Sen. Apodaca, a responsible education budget that will strengthen North Carolina’s public schools and universities for years to come.”
