The Beaufort County Board of County Commissioners Will Meet to Discuss the County's Business

The Government of Beaufort County meets every month for at least one general meeting to discuss and act on the county's business. Beaufort County employs the county manager form of government which stipulates that the board of county commissioners allow the county manager to set the agenda, and bring issues before them.

The Beaufort County Board of County Commissioners will meet to discuss a variety of issues in their general meeting on Monday, January 7, 2013. This is the seventh general meeting post-budget, when the Beaufort County Commissioners, by a vote of 5 to 2, elected to make no serious cuts of the budget and borrow even deeper from the county's fund balance; however, there has been a change in the make-up of this board by virtue of election. We shall have to see if there is some discernible change in the political machinations of this new board of county commissioners.

So far, by virtue of the election of chairman in the last meeting, we may have gotten a preview to what those political machinations may actually look like, with new Democrat County Commissioner Robert Belcher lining up with the Liberals: Ed Booth and Jerry Langley, and ew Republican County Commissioner Gary Brinn lining up with the Conservatives: Hood Richardson and Stan Deatherage. Veteran RINO (Republican in Name Only) County Commissioner Al Klemm has appeared to line up with the Democrats in the vote for chairman, as was his usual practice on most critical votes during his first 6 years as a county commissioner. It was hoped, in some sectors, that once Commissioner Al Klemm had escaped the grasp of unelected RINO County Commissioner Jay McRoy that he might remember some semblance of Republicanism, but it was not to be. Instead Klemm cut a deal with the Democrats to be vice chairman while making Democrat Jerry Langley over Republican Stan Deatherage.
