Crocheting class offered


    The Division of Continuing Education at Beaufort County Community College will offer its popular class in crocheting 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Feb. 5 and ending March 12 in Room 830 of Building 8 on the BCCC campus.

    This class is for beginners to advanced students. Beginning students will learn about various yarn and hooks, how to read patterns, basic crochet stitches, among other topics. They will work on projects chosen by their instructor. Advanced students will work on projects of their choice.

    Advanced students should bring hooks, yarn and patterns with them to class. Beginning students will receive a supply list upon registration. The registration fee is $35. The instructor is Lana Baird.

    Students may register by calling (252) 940-6375 or in person in room 802 of Building 8 on the BCCC campus. BCCC accepts Visa, MasterCard and Discover. Checks payable to Beaufort County Community College may be mailed to the attention of Eva Peartree, P.O. Box 1069, Washington, NC 27889.

BCCC offers Pharmacy Technician Certification Training


    The Division of Continuing Education at Beaufort County Community College will offer a course in Pharmacy Technician Certification Training 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Feb. 5 and ending April 11 in Room 823 and 824 of Building 8 on the BCCC campus.

    The 50-hour course is designed to prepare students to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam and enter the pharmacy field as a Pharmacy Technician I. Course material includes medical terminology specific to pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Students will learn how to calculate dosages, intravenous flow rates as well as compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement procedures.

    The registration fee is $120 with the required textbook, Pharmacy Technician Training Package, available at an additional cost in the BCCC Bookstore, located in Building 5, before the first night of class. The instructor is Paula Tyson.
