Press Release:

Martin County native and veteran educator Crystal Ange has been named Vice President of Academics at Beaufort County Community College.

In that post, Ange oversees and coordinates the college's academic programs including its curriculum, faculty and learning resources personnel and staff, among other duties. She succeeds Wesley Beddard who earlier this year accepted a position with the N.C. Community College System Office in Raleigh.

Ange joined the BCCC staff in 2008 in the post of Dean of Student Services and continues in that post on an interim basis in addition to her duties overseeing academics at the college. Her appointment was announced by BCCC President Barbara Tansey.

"BCCC is extremely fortunate to have someone with the combination of experiences and skills that Crystal possesses to assume the leadership of our academic services," Dr. Tansey said. "Her communication skills and experiences as curriculum director for our public school system will allow her to successfully guide our academic services as the college works to expand its curriculum offerings in the coming months."

This is not the first time that Ange has overseen academics in an educational setting. Before joining the BCCC staff, she served as assistant superintendent of Beaufort County Schools, overseeing the curriculum, exceptional children and student services.

A graduate of Jamesville High School, Ange earned an associate's degree from Mount Olive College in 1985, a bachelor's degree from East Carolina University in 1987, a master's in science education from ECU in 1990, a master's in school administration from ECU in 2000 and an education specialist degree in education and administration from ECU in 2006. She earned a doctorate in educational leadership from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., with a focus on special education law.

Ange and her husband, Richie, a teacher and coach at Riverside High School, live in Jamesville. They have two daughters - Corey, 21, and Peri, 18. They are members of Jamesville Christian Church. In her spare time, Ange enjoys reading, sports and spending time with her family.

Beaufort County Community College is a public comprehensive community college committed to accessible and affordable quality education, effective teaching, relevant training, and lifelong learning opportunities for the people served by the College.
