News Release:

What are a retired Supervisory Special Agent and former Chief of a FBI Counterterrorism Unit doing in a classroom at Northside High School? What’s the Belhaven Chief of Police doing there with him? Well, these civic leaders are simply teaching Northside’s Air Force Junior ROTC Cadets that in today’s day and age, “Everything Counts!”

Through a power-point presentation using multi-media the cadets were made aware of potentially great careers in law enforcement and national security. They were also given a “tool-box” of life skills with the purpose of improving their decision making ability. They were taught that you are known by who you hang out with, even now. However, the thrust of this one hour presentation focused on explaining how critical background checks and security clearances are to their future.

Al Powell passionately explained to these future leaders just how an unblemished record can open unlimited career opportunities locally as well as nationally. Al Powell is a certified North Carolina Police Instructor and the President of the Beaufort County Police Activities League (PAL).

PAL is an IRS approved nonprofit organization that seeks to improve the relationship between the community, at-risk-youth and law enforcement by organizing school life-skill or career orientation programs and summer activities. Chief Fred Clingenpeel has been the Belhaven Chief of Police since 2008
