Weather Update: Tropical Storm Andrea, Third | Eastern NC Now

We just concluded a conversation with the NWS and we seem in agreement with the current NWS and NHC forecast models.

News release:

    Good Afternoon:

We just concluded a conversation with the NWS and we seem in agreement with the current NWS and NHC forecast models. I have attached the latest briefing from the NWS and the only footnote to that briefing is a reminder of Storm Surge and Outflow. As the storm tracks at the present time the storm surge setup is one foot in Washington to just under two feet in Belhaven at high tide. The areas located between the two numbers will likely see surge numbers in between the high and the low listed above.

The outflow values for some time Saturday morning range from one foot in the Washington area to half a foot in the Belhaven area below low tide levels. If storm surge values or outflow values change we will let you know.

The attached briefing paints the picture better than I can. If county employees are going to be out on the roads tomorrow they need to have their emergency kits with them and be prepared to wait out weather delayed travel on the roadways.

There could be some very brilliant cloud to ground lightning with isolated severe thunderstorms or the ever possible tornado events at any time tomorrow anywhere in Beaufort County. There could be isolated wind gust in excess of forty miles per hour in and around the storm events previously listed. We do not expect any sustained winds above forty miles per hour during this tropical storm event based on the current track.

As a precaution DSS, BCHD and the American Red Cross need to be prepared to open a shelter in the Washington Area with as little as four hours of notice. THIS IS a Precaution.

The storm and the needs of our citizens will dictate the opening of the EOC or a Shelter. Current situation does not dictate an EOC staff briefing tomorrow morning.

Thank You for your help in keeping First Responders and our fellow County employees safe during this tropical event.

Latest Governing Beaufort County

The city council has only made two official acts as of February 16, 2026
While this afternoon’s update once again included increased probabilities of moderate to major impacts, it will likely be tomorrow before we receive specific accumulation details.
Government and its bureaucracy are not perfect, and never has been in this self-governed society, here at the local level, at our state level, and at our federal level, therefore, it is incumbent upon all elected politicians to seek a comfortable level of representation for our constituents.
Beaufort County is implementing a new emergency alert system. All residents are encouraged to sign up to receive alerts via phone and email.

Has the local government acted responsibly and transparently?
Beaufort County Commissioners meet, and work by a majority vote to do the business of those constituents they purport to represent.
Waste, fraud, abuse and incompetence continue to govern county school budgets and decision making.
