    Governor McCrory Takes Action on Legislation

    Raleigh, NC     Governor Pat McCrory signed four bills today:

    •  HB 428 (Reps. Hanes and Lambeth) - North Carolina School Bus Safety Act

    The bill enhances the ramifications of passing a stopped school bus.

    •   SB 638 (Sens. Jackson and Brock ) - NC Farm Act of 2013

    This bill provides clarity on the responsibilities of several key agencies to make sure farmers, farms and consumers are protected while at the same time freeing up the agriculture industry to become more efficient. The bill also protects animal owners and producers. It also addresses environmental concerns.

    Sens. Brent Jackson and Andrew Brock and Reps. Jimmy Dixon, Chuck McGrady and Commissioner of Agriculture Steve Troxler joined the governor for the signing.

    •   HB 767 (Reps. Murry, Whitmire, Szoka and Pierce) - Corporal Pruitt Rainey Brass to Class Act

    This bill directs the State Board of Education to establish rules for awarding credit for prior work experience given to certain veterans for the purpose of placing them on state salary schedules.

    Governor McCrory was joined by bill sponsors Reps. Tom Murry, Chris Whitmire and John Szoka and Sen. Don Davis and Broughton High School ROTC instructor Master Sgt. Richard Suggs for the signing.

    •   HB 192 (Reps. Shepard, Hamilton, Torbett and D. Ross) - Allow ROW Usage in Central Business Districts

    This bill permits local governments to enact sidewalk dining ordinances for use of state-owned right-of-way.

    Reps. Phil Shepard and John Torbett and Metropolitan Mayors Coalition executive director Julie White joined the governor for the signing.

    •  HB 110 (Reps. Goodman, J. Bell, Moffitt and Murry) - Public Contracts/Project Labor

    This bill provides for fair and open competition in governmental construction contracts.

    Governor McCrory was joined by Reps. Ken Goodman, John Bell, Tim Moffitt and Tom Murry for the signing.
