Timothy Wayne Cashion, age 69, passed into the arms of our Lord on November 4, 2025, after living for five years with blood cancer (MDS/AML).

The family will receive friends on November 9, 2025, from 1:00-2:00 pm in Wesley Hall at First Methodist Church in Washington, followed immediately by the funeral service at 2:00 pm, also in Wesley Hall. His burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery in Washington. Jay Barr, Steve Briggs, Pat Flesher, Kemp Huss, Ryan Jones, Herb Schmitt, and Doug Whitehead will serve as pallbearers.

Tim was born in Sanford, NC, to Jimmie Lee Cashion and Betty Ann Saunders Cashion. The family soon moved to Lillington, NC, and then to New Bern, NC, when Tim was in second grade. He graduated from New Bern Sr High School in 1975 where he played baseball and was active in the concert band and scouting, earning his Eagle Scout badge in 1974. During the summer after his senior year, he started talking to a sophomore girl named Neva Morgan. They were still talking 50 years later.

Tim loved the business of farming and working outdoors. After high school, he graduated from the Agricultural Institute of North Carolina State University (1977) and then worked at Galloway Farms in Grimesland, NC, and Pope Farms in Pantego, NC. Tim also loved helping people and was able to combine his loves by moving into agricultural retail management. For two decades he helped manage stores for FCX, Southern States, WB Gerard & Sons, and WB Thompson.

Tim and Neva married in 1980. They lived in Grimesland, Pantego, Chocowinity, and then settled in Washington in 1987. Their daughters, Brooke and Nola, were born in Washington and stayed through high school before leaving for college. Tim was devoted to his family and always found ways to support their interests and activities.

While his daughters were in school, Tim decided to earn a BS in Business Administration from East Carolina University, graduating in 2002. That led to a career change, and Tim taught business technology at Northside High School for one year before moving to P.S. Jones Middle School. He taught there for 12 years and served as Athletic Director. He also began building musical sets for Neva's musical theater productions at PSJ. They spent many fun weekends together, designing those sets, just the 2 of them. He retired in 2021.

Tim was an enthusiastic participant in the Washington community in other ways as well. He was a member of First Methodist Church, BathTime (a small group from church), the Methodist Men and the communion ministry for shut ins. He was a member of the Improved Order of Redmen and the Pamlico Amateur Radio Club. Tim was an enthusiastic sports fan. Many will remember him as a fair and unflappable official for countless softball, baseball, and volleyball games. He loved serving as a member of the chain crew for ECU home football games. He also enjoyed volunteering at the Marion Shepard Cancer Center.

Tim delighted in staying busy and doing things. He had a tenacious work ethic, but at rest he enjoyed fishing, driving on the beach at Emerald Isle, and puttering down the Pamlico on his pontoon boat. He also found joy in being with family and friends, eating good food, and porch-sitting.

He is survived by his wife of almost 45 years, Neva Cashion, his children Brooke Flesher (Pat) and grandson Thompson of Wendell, NC, Nola Jones (Ryan) of Hookerton, NC, sister-in-law Nancy Cashion of Raleigh, NC, mother-in-law Faith Morgan of New Bern, NC, sister-in-law and her husband Brenda and Steve Briggs of Rome, GA, as well as his special "Cashion Cousins" Jackie, Jill, Jeff, Jan, Julia and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ted Cashion, his father-in-law Martin Morgan Jr. and his brother-in-law Martin Morgan III.

Jesus said to [him], 'I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.' John 11:25-26

The family would like to give their special thanks to: Chase Hushour, Tim's stem cell donor from Ohio Dr. Nelson Chao, Kerry Minor, PA, Bethany Henshall, LCSW, and the nurses and staff at the Duke BCC Adult Blood and Marrow Transplant Clinic in Durham, NC Dr. John Inzerillo, Nicole DaVia, PA, Pat Crompton, LCSW, and the nurses and staff at the Marion Shepard Cancer Center in Washington, NC Heather Black, PA, ECU Health, Chocowinity, NC Amy Vaughn and our special nurses, Cathy, Chris, Paula, Victoria, and Velva with Gentiva Hospice.
