Truth for Our Times | Eastern NC Now

Every week the news reminds us that the great struggles of our time are not merely political disagreements or passing controversies. They are deeper questions about truth, freedom, human identity, and the moral foundations upon which our nation stands.

This week’s edition of Truth for Our Times touches on several of those defining issues. We look at the implications of North Carolina’s recent primaries, two significant court cases that could shape the future of religious liberty and human identity, a reflection on what happens when a nation lives as though God were absent, and a personal account from a recent Lord’s Day spent preaching among faithful believers.

Together these pieces offer both analysis and encouragement - reminding us that while the cultural moment may be turbulent, the calling of Christians remains the same: to stand for truth, to live faithfully, and to shine the light of Christ in every sphere of life.

Below are this week’s featured articles.

North Carolina’s Primaries Send a Warning to Conservative Christian Voters
By Dr. Mark Creech, Return America

North Carolina’s recent primaries reveal more than the outcome of a few political contests. They offer a window into the shifting moral and cultural direction of the state.

In this analysis, I examine how several Democratic incumbents lost their primaries after supporting legislation on issues such as parental rights, school safety, immigration enforcement, and protections for women and minors. Their defeats reveal how sharply ideological boundaries are now being enforced in modern politics.

For Christians who care about the moral direction of public policy, the lesson is unmistakable: elections increasingly determine whether deeply important cultural issues will be decided by biblical principles or by a radically different moral vision.

Courts, Conscience, and the Culture: Two North Carolina Cases Christians Should Watch
By Rev. Mark Creech, RevMarkCreech.org

Many of today’s most consequential cultural battles are no longer being fought primarily in legislatures. Increasingly, they are unfolding in courtrooms.

This article examines two legal disputes currently developing in North Carolina. One case concerns whether taxpayers must fund gender-transition medical procedures through the State Health Plan. The other involves an employee who was terminated after requesting a religious exemption from a COVID-19 vaccine mandate.

At first glance the cases may seem unrelated. Yet both highlight a growing tension between modern cultural claims about identity and the historic American commitment to freedom of conscience.

It’s a Bad Thing When God Dies
By Rev. Mark Creech, RevMarkCreech.org

What happens when a nation begins to live as though God were unnecessary?
Drawing from Psalm 10:4 and a remarkable missionary story about an African tribe that believed God had “died” during a solar eclipse, this reflection explores what occurs when the presence of God fades from public life.

America’s system of liberty was built upon the moral soil of the Judeo-Christian faith. When that light is eclipsed, the institutions that grew from it cannot long endure. Yet there is hope: God has not died, nor has His light vanished. When people turn back to Him, renewal is always possible.

When the Pulpit Burns Bright: Reflections from Briggs Memorial
By Rev. Mark Creech, RevMarkCreech.org

Few joys compare to standing in a pulpit and proclaiming the Word of God. Recently I had the privilege of preaching at Briggs Memorial Baptist Church in McLeansville, North Carolina, where I shared messages addressing both America’s spiritual condition and the church’s responsibility in this cultural moment.

This reflection recounts the encouragement of that day—the fellowship of believers, meaningful conversations after the service, and the testimonies of those who felt strengthened by the preaching of God’s Word.

It also serves as a reminder that while cultural battles may rage outside the church, the greatest hope for our nation still begins where the Gospel is faithfully preached and believed.

A Final Word
The events shaping our nation - from elections to court cases to the condition of the church—are reminders that our times require both vigilance and faithfulness.

Christians must remain engaged in the public square, yet our ultimate confidence is never in political outcomes or cultural influence. Our hope rests in the sovereign God who rules over nations and who still calls His people to be salt and light.

As Scripture reminds us:

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” (Psalm 33:12).

May God grant us wisdom, courage, and faithfulness as we seek to live for Him in these challenging days.

Thank you for reading Truth for Our Times.
