Press Release:

Raleigh, N.C.     Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) and House Speaker Thom Tillis (R-Mecklenburg) today applauded Gov. Pat McCrory and Transportation Secretary Tony Tata for their leadership and joined their call for the Southern Environmental Law Center to stop obstructing construction of the economically vital new economically vital new Bonner Bridge.

“The Southern Environmental Law Center’s frivolous lawsuit is only the latest episode in their scheme to agitate the left and raise funds for an extreme, fringe agenda – this time, at the expense of Northeastern North Carolina’s economy. We’d expect no less from liberal elitists from Chapel Hill and Charlottesville who want to turn the Outer Banks into a private nature retreat they can visit on the weekends. But we recognize that our Outer Banks are so much more than that – they are the home to thousands of North Carolina families and small businesses who rely day-to-day on the Bonner Bridge for their livelihoods. This is not a game, and the Southern Environmental Law Center should abandon its self-serving motives out of respect for the North Carolinians they’re hurting.”
