Press Release:

Raleigh, N.C.     Senator Bill Cook (R-District 1) joined with Governor Pat McCrory and other officials in a press conference at the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center in Dare County, held Friday, Dec. 6. Senator Cook and Governor McCrory expressed their concern and support for the community of Hatteras Island affected by the Bonner Bridge closure. The bridge on N.C. Hwy. 12 over the Oregon Inlet connects Hatteras Island to the mainland. Because of recent erosion around several supports, the bridge was judged unsafe by the N.C. Department of Transportation.
Shown in the photograph is Senator Cook speaking at the press conference with Governor McCrory (left) and Chair of Dare County Board of Commissioners Warren Judge (right).

“The Southern Environmental Laws Center continues to attempt with obstructing harm on the people of the Outer Banks. Their pointless and insignificant lawsuits have stopped the bridge from being replaced well over two years ago,” Senator Bill Cook said. “You might have to take a ferry ride, but businesses on Hatteras are still open. This is a chance to come down and support the people of Hatteras Island. However, the entire Outer Banks north of Hatteras Island is accessible and open for business as well.”
