Major gun rights organizations GRNC and NRA rate the general election candidates | Eastern NC Now

Most Republicans stand for gun rights

ENCNow

The major gun rights organization in North Carolina, Grassroots North Carolina has issued its pre-election Remember in November assessment of general election candidates positions on gun rights.  The assessment is made from three sources, voting records, candidate questionaires, and other information.  Candidates are rated as one to four stars or zero, which is the lowest rating.

Here are the 2026 candidate ratings from GRNC

US Senate

Roy Cooper 0 ; Michael Whatley 4*; Bray (Lib.) 4*

US Congress

Don Davis 0 ; Laurie Buckhout 4*

Darin Armstrong 0

GRNC is by far the most active gun rights organization in the NC General Assembly.  It has people on the ground there almost constantly, while the NRA lobbyist for NC, who is based in Richmond, Virginia only shows up occasionally.

The NRA grades based on letter grades, and where a candidate has no record and refuses to answer their questionaire, they get a "?" grade.  Here is the NRA ratings on gun rights.

Between both organizations, all the Democrats are F's, zeros, or question marks. That tells you a lot about how Democrats feel about our guns rights. Only one of the Republican ticket, Darren Armstrong, was that low. The rest of the Republicans back our gun rights.

Armstrong is a one trick pony. If it does not involve farming he just doesn't care. I don't think the rest of us are going to be getting much representation out of this dude for the next two years. We will need to make a change then.

On the other races, this gives me a good reason to hold my nose and vote for Whatley. I always knew Buckhout and Brinson were solid choices.

Just like a Democrat, the RoundUp RINO, Darren Armstrong runs away from gun rights. He cares more about his precious RoundUp, which was the only thing his campaign was about than our right to our rifles and pistols. He is unopposed and so is a shoe in, but I'll be damned if that stinking turd gets my vote.
