    Would you like to give a loved one a hand-made scarf for a birthday this year? Then learn to knit with this class offered by the Division of Continuing Education at Beaufort County Community College.

    The class will be 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Jan. 7 and ending Feb. 11 in Room 821 of Building 8 on the BCCC campus. The registration fee is $35.

    Instructor Elaine Roberson will lead students as they learn the basic stitches of knit and purl. Students will learn to gather materials, cast-on, cast-off, increase and decrease and choose appropriate needles. After finishing this class, students should be ready to move on to more complex projects.

    The class will also include a field trip on Saturday, Feb. 1, to Knitting Addiction in Nags Head, one of the state's most exciting suppliers of yarns and knitting supplies.

    Students may register by calling 940-6375 or in person in room 802 of Building 8 on the BCCC campus. BCCC accepts Visa MasterCard and Discover. Checks payable to Beaufort County Community College may be mailed to the attention of Eva Peartree, 5337 U.S. Highway 264 East, Washington, NC 27889. If the office is closed during the holidays, you may leave a voice mail and someone will return your call at a later date.
