I left Thursday morning for Elizabeth City. It was a peaceful drive even with a little rain falling. I thought of all that had been accomplished at the rabbit patch, in the last few weeks.

I was up especially early, today-but I still missed "the morning service". I did not say my prayers, til two am, just a few hours, before I roused. The sweet little housekeeping work on Monday, turned out to be grueling.

Today is far from ordinary, at the rabbit patch. On this day, three decades ago, I became a mother. My oldest son, Brant was born on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, while the mimosa trees were blooming.

I grew up in New York City and didn't move to the South until the eighth grade. In NYC, it was routine to inquire about someone's heritage, as in whether they were Italian, Greek, Irish, Jewish, whatever.
