Who is Eric Hafner? Democrat on Alaska ballot accused of being GOP ploy.

The episode is resurfacing as Republicans accuse Democrats of helping another unconventional candidate onto an Alaska ballot: Daniel J. Sullivan Jr., a retired teacher who shares a name with incumbent Republican Senator Dan Sullivan.

The circumstances and legal issues are different. But Democrats are pointing to the Hafner case as Republicans, including President Donald Trump, denounce Sullivan Jr.’s candidacy and GOP Governor Mike Dunleavy orders an investigation into whether alleged efforts to recruit candidates into this year’s Senate race violated Alaska law.

The comparison raises an uncomfortable political question for both sides: When does putting more candidates before voters promote choice, and when does it become an effort to manipulate an election?

We know what happened in Texas and other red states. Blue states got smart and did the same thing in an effort to balance the scale.

As far as Alaska goes, both sides do it. Not illegal. Countless examples. Unclench your pearls. Trump took the gloves off. You dont expect normal people to sit by and get punched in the face, do you?

I would say that very few who do hard time on a sex abuse charge are actually innocent.
I’m sure it’s not a 100% but that boy did something.

The facts:
Harvey L. West Jr. pleaded guilty in 2000 to multiple counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor and has been a registered sex offender since his release in 2006.

Michael Whatley did not hire West as an employee, but he did appoint him to certain volunteer leadership positions within the North Carolina Republican Party, a fact that has drawn scrutiny.
