I'm not up to speed on basketball and it was never a sport that I followed closely, so I am stuck with trying to compare statistics. Here is Pete and Lebron numbers from Wikipedia. I'd say that Pete held his own. Of course, most of his games were before the 3-point rule was established. I use these only as a relative comparison and not a who is the better player. Two different eras.

My thoughts on the $400 million dollar exchange / ransom.

Note to Self: Do not go Duck hunting with Dick Cheney or anyone in the Obama Administration. Cheney does not know how to handle a shotgun and no one in the Obama Administration knows that what looks like a duck and quacks like a duck could be a duck.

Thanks for a thoughtful and well-reasoned article. Unfortunately, the argument is lost on many of our leftist friends. They don't care about the meaning. Many of them are Hoplophobes. I have been waiting to use that term in the same manner that liberals throw around their pejoratives at us. I think you may have a typo in your profile. It says you are nineteen years old. If that is true then I need to revise my hopes for our future. Keep the articles coming.

Hoplophobia, n. Irrational, morbid fear of guns (c. 1966, coined by Col. Jeff Cooper, from the Greek hoplites, weapon; see his book Principles of Personal Defense). May cause sweating, faintness, discomfort, rapid pulse, nausea, sleeplessness, nondescript fears, more, at mere thought of guns. Presence of working firearms may cause panic attack.

I was never an avid Basketball fan, but I did follow Pistol Pete just because of his Atlanta connection. It was a shame his knees could not hold up and amazing that he was able to play with an undiagnosed heart condition. It just goes to show how much you can accomplish through sheer effort and perseverance.

I think you wife has it about right. You have to be careful. KFC started a decline when they tried to branch out into a broader menu. The name change to KFC was to de-emphasize "Fried" during start of the health craze. I had a friend whose father owned a Franchise in Winder and the weekend football crowd made him rich. Winder is between Atlanta and UGA home in Athens, Ga. That is still my go to place now that I live close to it, but I have noticed many of the locations are not well maintained.

Now you can check online for the health score of any food joint. Some of the best BBQ I ever had was from the front yard in the hood, but then again, everybody knows how to make BBQ. First you .....

Thanks, I am working on a new project. If George Hamilton can be the “Extra Crispy Colonel” for KFC, there may be room for a special lunch special. All right wings by "Colonel Bobby Tony" with that special combination of lard and blubber and just a hint of sarcasm. I need to work on the "Hint" ingredient though.

Stan, you are right, a 12 sting is cool.
After someone thinks they have acquired some basic technique on the guitar, the next step in humility is to try and tune, then play a 12 string guitar. All your mistakes are amplified by more than X2.

Usually the VC would set up 60MM mortar and drop about 3-4 rounds and then di di mau (“get lost! Or Get the F out”). They did not use the bipod or base plate, but just held the tube. The 60MM mortar can fire over a mile but they usually were only a few hundred yards away.

The sound of round dropped in the tube told you that you had about 5-10 seconds before it hit. The longest seconds in your life was the 'hang time' of the first round. The shortest seconds of your life was the "hang time' of the second round. For some reason physics had a time warp between 1 and 2.

The mortar is an indirect fire weapon. It can shoot over an obstruction and the firing crew does not have to see the target, they just send them down range with a "to whom it may concern" tag.
The mortar and the RPG instilled the most fear in me since it was an area blast instead of a direct fire bullet from a rifle.
Here is a sample of a crew firing a 60MM in a fire for effect.

Somewhere I heard or saw the quote that a good military general should be kept behind glass with a "break glass in case of emergency" sign next to a hammer. I am an extremely strong believer in civilian control of the military. However, once committed, we should stand back and let them work, because it is going to be messy. Most good military combat leaders are terribly politically incorrect but effective. That is why we had better be sure we have the public's approval before undertaking military solutions. George H.W. Bush did that with the liberation of Kuwait under Storming Norman Schwarzkopf who passed in 2012 at 78. The American people are an impatient group and protracted operations are bound to lose their support.

The best example of that is Chesty Puller, the legendary Marine combat leader, who is quoted as saying when he came to a base to inspect a unit "Take me to the brig, I want to see the real Marines."

I am willing to bet that no one watched that video all the way to the end (4:30) just to see if those two people got "neeckkeed." I am not telling!

There is a difference between naked and "neeckkeed." Naked means you don't have any clothes on. "Neeckkeed" means you don't have any clothes on but you're up to no good.

The difference in WWII and Vietnam was that the WWII was a campaign-oriented event whereas Vietnam was a daily event. Most Grunts spent their whole 12 months in the field. Only officers spent the 6 in and 6 out. I was fortunate to only spend 8 in and 4 back in the rear with the gear. But it really makes no difference on the length. One (1) 'good' firefight was enough to induce a lifelong legacy. I am not trying to nick pick, but I have spent a good portion of my research time trying to reconcile fact from my own internalized myths.

Here is a good summary of the A New Generation of Combat Stress

"One example of the level of combat stress can be roughly defined between those who served in World War II and Vietnam. For a combat soldier in World War II who served for four years, the average time spent in actual combat was approximately 40 days. By comparison, Grunts in Vietnam spent an average of about two-thirds of their 12- or 13-month tours – over 250 days – in combat."

I am working on the Reverse-Elvis effect. Elvis would usually leave the arena after his last curtain call and they would announce, "ELVIS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING." My idea is to keep coming back for a non-audience-requested-curtain call until the "LAST AUDIENCE MEMBER HAS LEFT THE BUILDING." So far it is working well.

"BT – IS LEFT IN THE BUILDING .....ALONE."

The old joke about Joe Kennedy was when someone ask him how much money he spent on his son's election. His answer was just enough to win the election I'm not buying a landslide.

Here is a simplified version that pretty much covers the chords
I think S&G use a capo on third or forth fret depending on ones vocal range. You can play with the finger picking and there are several YouTube versions of the search "Bookends Theme - Guitar Tutorial - Simon & Garfunkle - Fingerstyle" for one.

Well thanks, but I have not always felt that way. It was obviously the most trans-formative period in my life, but after that I saw the solution in the mirror every morning. It may sound strange, but you have to embrace your past for good or bad.
One of my old veteran buddies put it in perspective. We were talking and I told him I did not suffer from PTSD. His response was "You may not but I'll bet your family does."

It really hit home when I saw No country for old men. I keep this video on my play list for YouTube. It never fails to straighten me out.

No one asked or requested this but just because Stan mentioned it, I have added Old Friends / Bookends to my guitar repertoire. I must admit I enjoy the music but the lyrical nuance is most difficult for me to catch. Paul's chords must be a reflection of his small hands. I notice he does not use too many bar chords which is difficult on a classical.

You are right Stan, my memory may be a bit cloudy, but I don't remember Sir Charles as always smiling and he certainly did not have a concrete tunnel and name tag. But we did leave one good legacy there. Maybe there is a way to make a buck from this. Clean up the tunnels and sell tours. Based on the blue name tag I would say he was a republican.

I always maintained that our greatest accomplishment was showing the Vietnamese how to exercise pure capitalism, which they did with abandon. Why else would I buy an American beer for $1.00 from the kid on the Lambretta. We helped them develops a strong sense of entrepreneurship. It's a shame we cannot do the same in this country.

Commented on That's Awful!

The real problem may be that word ten-year. I think that the professors and administrators think they must keep raising tuition to keep ten-year employees employed. If we changed to a one-year format where each professor and administrator had to re-qualify for their job every year we could make some progress. Well, on second thought maybe we ought to work on that word progress as well.

To paraphrase Ghost Busters, I have worked in the private sector, they expect results.

John had his demons like us all, but within his music, there was a realization of the yin and yang of life. One of my best friend's says you cannot enjoy the highs if you haven't had a few lows. I guess the secret is to end on a high note as John did. Thanks for the reminder of a troubadour who knew both sides.

Just when I thought I was ready to sit back and let others run the world, I am forced back into reality by your article. A preliminary review of this article indicates that maybe our system is outdated in the implementation of the concepts of the constitution and founding principles. The principals are sound but we seemed to have veered very far from the concept of individual rule by a close local group of elected officials that can be controlled by an active populace.

Accordingly, I must rethink my beliefs. I don't know whether to thank you or complain, but in any event the article makes for some deeper thoughts than the Old Rooster was prepared to undertake.

Songwriters are indeed a magical breed. Unafraid to expose their innermost feelings in music and many like John span the spectrum of extreme highs and deep lows that every person experiences. I used his personal rendition of "Perhaps Love" as the soundtrack of a video slideshow I made in remembrance of my mother. It don't get much better than:

If I should live forever
And all my dreams come true
My memories of love will be of you
