Stan, I have not been to a gun show in quite a while and there used to be quite a few there. If you want a shooter M1 just for fun or memories, I think there are still plenty around in various shapes. All parts are interchangeable, so you could construct a good shooting Garand from various manufacture.

I was looking for a collector / investment grade weapon, which means all the parts need to be matched. Just like the antique auto elitists, the weapons crowd can tell an assembled rifle from an original issue. After talking this over with my son who will eventually inherit my collection, all I need is a shooter. He is not into collecting for investment yet. Below is a sample of listing on Guns America of both types. see the first one, $6,195.00 for an investment grade weapon.

I think that The Donald is now resorting to what I used to call the Bobby Knight method of coaching. When his team is not winning, he resorted to throwing chairs and acting like a jerk. His purpose was not just a temper tantrum. It was to motivate his players and intimidate he referees in hopes they would not call a foul for fear of his reaction.

Some would point out that he was one of the winningest coaches ( #8 ) in basketball history. That may work in the game of basketball and sports but it is not what I would want in a President. Winning at any cost is not an admirable attribute.

I am a very poor novice in Photoshop but it gives me a chance to expand my learning curve in the visual medium.

The one day take more time reminds me of a poem. Perhaps another post is in order.

I did dream this up. It is amazing what an idle mind can come up with given enough time. The picture is a Photoshop Composite created using layers from various images. The point I was trying to make was that Liberals always seem to think the fact that they care is sufficient. I was not trying to make fun of people in that situation. Our time and efforts would be well spent in helping those people who are outside the norm rather than trying to make "touchy feely" gestures to show that we care.

The general idea is combining and scaling of multiple pictures in layers and saving as a jpg file. Writing about the absurd seems to be a common theme for me as any reader of BCN can verify.

Maybe the proper course of action should have been for "The Boss" to continue with his concert and donate the proceeds to a fund to construct appropriate restrooms for the North Carolina residents who are in need of the facilities. I would expect the NC government to present a bill to him for cost associated with the preparation and cancellation of his concert. I have no idea about Mr. Springsteen's charitable donations, which could be considerable so my criticism could be misplaced.

Failing that Charlotte could present 'The Boss' with a Key to the city; or maybe a Keyhole. I am confused on the gender specifics of the Key and Lock analogy.

Apparently the Boss Springsteen to Greensboro, NC just showed his a$$, so I guess your suggestion is not far behind. Are we heading back to the three bathrooms of a past era? One of my old bars only had dogs on the bathroom door.

As a collector and not a shooter, I have been looking for a quality M1 for years. I have a WWII Army issue M1 Carbine in the inventory. My 2 years of ROTC in high school and 2 in College were all trained with an M1. Years ago you could pick one up for next to nothing, now a matching part M1 will be over $2000. Here is a site which sells them in various conditions with mixed parts from fair to display quality.

I'm not worried TMac, you see I have the gate guarding my neighborhood and since every house looks the same, I doubt anyone would be able to find me. Not even a Swedish Stewardess.

Automation replaces many things and cursive fonts make typing "almost" seem like a personal touch. Now that machines can replicate cursive writing, the Pseudo-Personal touch is within the reach of almost everyone without effort or thought. This video illustrates the Pseudo-Personal bond that only a machine could accomplish.

Good Point Gene, In most cases I suspect that there is an alternative way out without a weapon or never putting yourself in the situation. While that is not always possible, a weapon is a good thing to have as it takes two to tango and an awful lot depends on who is the lead dancer, you or the other fella.

The First Edition was an early fore runner for many groups that blended R&B, folk, country, and even the psychedelic music. It played out its run like most bands do but it helped launch Kenny Rogers' remarkable career. Two more of their early hits were "But You Know I Love You" & "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town".

I never saw them in concert and did not even realize that Kenny was part of the group until later in the 1970's.

I also never made the connection with the Mickey Jones from Home Improvement and other shoes due to the beard. He apparently got around the movie sets and TV shows quite well.

Here is a picture from his website. I agree with the statement there. "To not know Mickey Jones by name is understandable, but to not recognize him is surprising".

Thank you Diane, I don't remember if I have ever seen this quote from President Reagan before. It is clear, distinct and to the point from the Great Communicator. While the liberals will debate over who actually wrote this, I will concentrate on it's content. His ability to clearly present an idea is more important than the parsing of the words.

I guess the NC bathroom debate will continue for a while, so I have a possible solution just to add fuel to the fire.

I propose that they amend the Voter ID laws in NC and require a Bathroom ID for use of the bathroom. A certified copy of the birth certificate or state issued ID along with the ink footprint and gender at time of birth would be required before anyone could enter a public bathroom. This of course would not apply to bars because "Uaren@ting While Impaired (UWI)" is not against the law yet.----delete if inappropriate

Thanks for featuring Jewel in this article.

This girl has all the right stuff. As usual I was a late comer to her talent due to my lack of attention to music during the 1990's. I did however keep up with some of my all-time favorites. Here Jewel displays her remarkable range with Merle Haggard in one his songs at the 1999 Country Music Awards. That's the Way Loves Goes. She also has a another great duet with Merle "Silver Wings"

If she makes it to Atlanta with her show, I may take my favorite date (my daughter) to see the show.

Just when I thought this thread was over, I read about this:

In 2014 the NSA agency's Michael Daniel Special Assistant to the President and Cybersecurity Coordinator released the following information. It is barely possible that the FBI may have to disclose to Apple how it hacked the IPhone. I would not hold my breath but Apple could contract the same company the FBI used to find out how they broke the system.

"This spring, we re-invigorated our efforts to implement existing policy with respect to disclosing vulnerabilities – so that everyone can have confidence in the integrity of the process we use to make these decisions. We rely on the Internet and connected systems for much of our daily lives. Our economy would not function without them. Our ability to project power abroad would be crippled if we could not depend on them. For these reasons, disclosing vulnerabilities usually makes sense. We need these systems to be secure as much as, if not more so, than everyone else."

This has been a good series.

I will dig up my Training with a BB gun article from Grandpa's Diary and review to see if it is worthy of BCN (based on most of my articles, how would I know?). We actually did train using Daisy Lever Action BB guns.

Updated to comment: March 30, 2016
For what it is worth, the BB gun article is published now.

Thanks Stan,
Too much time and too little knowledge is a bad thing.

The binary joke came from an article that I have in personal files but has not been published on BCN. The short version ( you are welcome) is that I still use binary programming in my quest to win the Power Ball. Here is my one and only punch card.
Maybe I will dig out the article and add it to the BCN Fluff pile.

Georgia does not have any training requirement for a concealed carry permit. Here is the link to a local range which has some general and specific information. If anyone is really interested in possession and concealed carry, I suggest they take advantage of the courses offered by a trained professional.

You don't have to be a 'gun nut' to educate yourself and family on proper use of a deadly weapon.

In my view, there is as much danger from an untrained armed civilian with a gun as there is from a criminal. Ted's gun series is not just for those who live in a dangerous neighborhood, or feel threatened by their environment. It is important that anyone know how to use their tools regardless of what they are.

Good series Ted.

FBI Says It May Be Able To Access Shooter's iPhone Without Apple's Help

www.npr.org

BT Disclaimer: I keep adding these updates because it is your and my privacy at stake. I believe that the FBI is not actually asking for access to the information but is trying to set a legal precedent for forcing a company to create something that the government should be able to do on its own with proper search warrant protections.

I once heard a speaker say the way to change the world was two books; the Bible and the Sears Roebuck Catalog. One feeds the soul and the other feeds the yearning for things. The Sears catalog has morphed into Amazon but the Bible remains the food for the soul.

Interesting subject though.

My interpretation to John 6:44 is similar to a thirsty man that is drawn to water. The water is always there but without the thirst, it does not draw the man. Only when the man is thirsty does he feel the need for the water. Drawing, or alluring, not dragging is the key. You must be ready to accept the invitation. I will admit, I had to consult Clarke's Commentary which is my go to source to explain what I can't understand from the scripture.

In the good old USA today there are many advertisements that encourage you to buy or pay for a course on how to properly use self-defense. I have always suspected that they are secret insurance programs sell you a burial policy if their advice does not work.

However, here is one that I found that appears to be legit and worthwhile if you are planning on getting into a gunfight. It is the link to the Concealed Carry Website, which is also an advertisement to join the group and gain insurance coverage in case you are involved in a self-defense shooting. They have a Silver, Gold and Platinum plan of insurance coverage.

Watch the Video to get an understanding of the options.

Ted,

I think Tennessee requires a class and range practice before issuing a carry permit. My brother had to go to it when he got his permit. Georgia is basically sign up, fingerprint and wait for background check as you said. Correct me if this is incorrect.

Agreed Stan and Alex,

President Obama has consistently used cloaked gestures and images to demonstrate to his fellow compatriots around the world that he supports their philosophy. In my opinion, the blockbuster sales of his books were just a mechanism to transfer money to him from his liberal supporters. That is a legal and appropriate technique used by all sides to repay past or future favors. It is a part of our free speech protection and I have no problem with that but many do not recognize it as just a transfer mechanism for money. Unfortunately, not too many citizens read the books where he does not cloak his beliefs but told us "Who he was".

We the people have allowed this to occur. Jefferson was right when he said:

"Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny". Thomas Jefferson
