The Beaufort County Board of County Commissioners will meet to discuss a variety of issues in their General Meeting on Tuesday, July 5, 2011. This is the first general meeting post budget, where the county commissioners, by a vote of 5 to 2, raised your property taxes by 6%.

On November 18, 2010, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an Attempted Arson that occurred at a residence on Old Blount’s Creek Road in Chocowinity, North Carolina. A resident reported the suspect attempted to burn the home during a dispute.

Another wildfire sparked by lightening, on June 19, 2011, has affected North Carolina. The wildfire in Pender County's Holly Shelter Gamelands, Juniper Road and County Line Road, and 8 miles North of Topsail is continuing to burn out of control.
