Career Readiness Class for Nurse Aide I students to begin at BCCC | Eastern NC Now

    Class is scheduled to begin Monday, April 28, at Beaufort County Community College in a career readiness course for those students interested in enrolling in a Nurse Aide I course at the college.

    The class, Career Readiness for Nurse Aides, will be offered 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays beginning April 28 and ending May 21 in Room 823 of Building 8 on the BCCC campus. The instructor is Keisha Jennette.

    The registration fee for the class is $70. This fee may be waived for those individuals who are currently unemployed, have received notice of a pending lay-off, are working and eligible for the Federal Income Tax Credit or working and earning wages at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level. To qualify for the waiver, individuals must certify that they meet one of the criteria before they register for the class.

    In addition to the registration fee, other costs of the program total $60 and include a $30 Career Readiness Certification fee; a $15 fee for the Workplace Observation Assessment, and a $15 fee for a performance assessment, which must be paid at the time of registration. These fees apply to all students; however, funding assistance may be available through the local NCWorks Center. In Beaufort County, contact Danielle Street at 974-1820.

    The class will prepare students to take the Career Readiness Certification test and achieve at least a "silver" designation on the test and achieve a score of '1" on the Workplace Observation Assessment - pre-requisites for enrolling in a Nurse Aide I class or the Basic Skills Plus Nurse Aide I class. Students who do not achieve these benchmarks will be offered additional courses to help them qualify for the next available Nurse Aide I class. Students will also be required to complete the Performance Skills Assessment which identifies areas that may prevent them from getting a job including poor work attitudes and lack-luster job performance.

    Students may register in Room 802 of Building 8.
