Press Release:

Raleigh, NC     Governor Pat McCrory congratulated State Chief Information Officer Chris Estes who received the State Leadership Award from StateScoop, a distinction given to public sector leaders who are helping government implement new technologies, strategies, and IT programs. StateScoop is a leading national publication that features industry trends, leadership, and innovation in state and local government technology.

"I've often said that I would put my cabinet up against the corporate board of any Fortune 500 company, and Chris Estes is another example why," said Governor McCrory. "He is leading the effort to make interacting with government as consumer-friendly and cost-effective as shopping on the internet or checking the latest scores on a smart phone."

Estes and his team of IT professionals are leveraging technology to make state government more efficient, effective, and accessible for the people who live and do business in North Carolina. Under his leadership, the State opened the Innovation Center in October of 2013, a working lab in downtown Raleigh where state employees, students, and the business community collaborate in a "try before you buy" approach to investing in technology systems.

Estes, who leads the Office of Information Technology Services, was chosen from a national field of nominees during an online voting process. He was presented with the StateScoop award at the National Association of State Chief Information Officers' conference on May 8th.
