Winter Weather Monday Night
News Release:
Good Afternoon Everybody:
There will be an EOC Support Team Meeting at 11:30am tomorrow morning, Monday, February 16th here in the EOC. We will get the latest updates from the NWS and coordinate issues and make recommendations to the Control Group. Weather Service is likely to issue a Weather Storm Watch tomorrow for icing Monday night into and through 11:00am Tuesday morning. We could see freezing rain or sleet as early as 5:00pm Monday evening.
NC DOT has already begun putting down brine on the bridges and roads throughout the County. Possible courses of action include, but are not limited to: delay of school and County Government operations on Tuesday Morning, Shelter Operations, Feeding Operations and EOC activation.
This wintry mix forecast bears close monitoring.

* LOCATIONS... GENERALLY WEST OF HIGHWAY 17 AND ALONG THE U.S. 64 AND 264 CORRIDORS.
* TIMING... MONDAY NIGHT AND TUESDAY.
* HAZARD TYPES... A BRIEF PERIOD OF SNOW AND SLEET BUT THE MAIN HAZARD TYPE IS EXPECTED TO BE FREEZING RAIN.
* ACCUMULATIONS... SNOW AND SLEET MAY ACCUMULATE UP TO 1 INCH WITH A TENTH TO AS MUCH AS A QUARTER OF AN INCH OF ICE ACCRUAL.
* IMPACTS... ROADS WILL QUICKLY BECOME SNOW... SLEET... AND ICE COVERED AND TRAVEL WILL BECOME DANGEROUS. SCATTERED POWER OUTAGES WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE.

WINDS OF 5 TO 15 MPH COMBINED WITH TEMPERATURES FALLING INTO THE TEENS... WILL RESULT IN WIND CHILL INDICES OF 5 TO 10 DEGREES ABOVE ZERO OVER MUCH OF EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA OVERNIGHT INTO EARLY MONDAY MORNING.
PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO THESE WIND CHILL TEMPERATURES IS DANGEROUS. IF VENTURING OUTSIDE, WEAR LAYERS OF CLOTHING INCLUDING A HAT AND GLOVES.
