R U Job Ready? Workshops Will Show You How To Be | Eastern NC Now

    If you're looking for a job, let the Division of Continuing Education at Beaufort County Community College and Beaufort County NCWorks help you prepare for that all-important interview.

    Six three-hour workshops have been scheduled that will help job-seekers with their 30-second "elevator speech" to potential employers and other aspects of the job search. They are scheduled as follows:

• Wednesday, April 15, 9 a.m. to noon or 1 to 4 p.m.
• Wednesday, April 22, 9 a.m. to noon or 1 to 4 p.m.
• Wednesday, April 29, 9 a.m. to noon or 1 to 4 p.m.

    All workshops will be at the Beaufort County NCWorks Career Center, formerly JobLink, at 1385 John Small Ave., Washington. The registration fee for each workshop is $70 plus a technology fee of $5. Both the registration fee and technology fee may be waived for those who qualify.

    Each workshop participant will update or create an NCWorks.gov account, create or update a resume, develop a 30 second "elevator speech" explaining his or her job skills and walk out of the class ready to meet with potential employers.

    Space is limited to 10 participants in each three-hour workshop so early registration is recommended.

    The workshops have been timed to benefit job seekers who would like to attend the Beaufort County Job Fair, according to Lou Stout, director of Workforce Initiatives at BCCC.

    The Job Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, May 6, at the Washington Civic Center and those who complete a workshop will be given a ticket that will allow them early entry into the fair, Stout said.

    "Employers at the Job Fair will be looking for people to fill their applicant pool or to fill existing job openings so these workshops will give job-seekers the tools they need to make a good impression on employers," she said. "And with the early entry, workshop participants will be able to meet with employers for an hour before the Job Fair opens to the general public."
