Press Release:

Raleigh, NC — The North Carolina Council of State unanimously approved an agreement today that will sell the 300 acre-plus Dorothea Dix campus to the City of Raleigh for approximately $52 million. The agreement was reached by the McCrory Administration and City of Raleigh earlier this year.

"Today's vote marks the end of a long and hard negotiation between the state of North Carolina and the city of Raleigh," Governor McCrory said. "Raleigh is gaining a destination park site and the state will gain funds to help our fellow citizens who need vital mental health services."

Under the agreement, the state of North Carolina will lease a portion of the campus to house offices and facilities for the Department of Health and Human Services.

The agreement is the result of a renegotiation of a previous deal reached in the final days of the previous administration. That agreement would have yielded the equivalent of $25 million to the citizens of North Carolina.

Financing is the final hurdle for the agreement. The City of Raleigh has until the end of the year to identify financing to pay for the Dix Campus.
