Carolina Demography's Tippett explains electoral impact still lies in future

RALEIGH — One out of every three North Carolinians is a millennial. And those in the generation born between 1982 and 2004 will soon become the largest chunk of the adult population as well. But that doesn't mean millennials will play an outsized role in the 2016 elections.

Dr. Rebecca Tippett delivered that message Monday to the John Locke Foundation's Shaftesbury Society. Tippett directs Carolina Demography at the Carolina Population Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Tippett explained that lower citizenship and voter participation rates among millennials suggest that their full impact on the electoral process lies more in the future than the present.

Tippett also shared more facts about millennials. In the video clip below, she debunked the myth that millennials are rejecting some of the major life goals and achievements of previous generations.
