Press Release:

Raleigh, N.C.     Neal Alexander, Director of the NC Office of State Human Resources (OSHR), announced today that former state employee, Chakrapani Tadementi, hired in March 1995, was indicted by a grand jury on the charges of felony larceny and retention of property under false pretense. Mr. Tadementi retired from state government in March 2015 after serving 20 years as a Human Resources Manager in the Benefits Division of OSHR.

In April 2015, during an internal review of a communications account that served multiple benefit plans, concerns arose over possible misuse of funds. The account was managed by Mr. Tadementi in coordination with a 3rd-party vendor. On June 1, 2015, a meeting was held with the 3rd-party vendor to review the communication account. At that time, suspicions increased and it became clear that further investigation into the use of the communications account was needed.

Once the internal investigation was completed, senior leadership at OSHR was informed of the findings. OSHR promptly contacted the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) which, in turn, informed the Wake County District Attorney's office. As the investigation continues, OSHR is cooperating fully with both the SBI and the district attorney's office, including following a recommendation by the SBI to request an audit by the Office of State Budget and Management.
