Press conference to highlight skyrocketing early voting numbers

RALEIGH, NC- President Obama visited Chapel Hill earlier this week, and while he was there he echoed sentiments by the NCGOP about early voting. The quote below was reported in a Reuters article, which can be read HERE.

  • "Right now, there are more one-stop early vote sites in North Carolina than ever before." -President Obama

But early voting numbers are telling North Carolinians one thing for sure-- it's not that Democrats are unable to vote in this election, it's that they aren't excited about voting in this election. With candidates like Roy "Do Nothing" Cooper and "Crooked Hillary," it's no wonder Democrats are trailing their 2008 and 2012 early voting numbers, while overall North Carolina is seeing unprecedented early voting turnout.

A record number of early voting opportunities were made possible this year by Republicans, with large additions to both early voting hours and locations. 225,097 more people have voted than at this point in 2012, which sets a record of more than 2.2 million votes cast in North Carolina so far in early voting (in person and via mail). Republican ballots are up 84,001 and Democrats are down by 8,804. Unaffiliated voters, particularly in rural areas, have increased by 43% as well.

  • "Democrats are now using their tried-and-true race-baiting scare tactics to try and motivate people to vote for their uninspiring Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton. Meanwhile, Republican voters are empowered by the chance to 'Make America Great Again.' Democrat voters are not suppressed, but depressed, because they have a seriously corrupt candidate that offers no hope, no change, and is certainly not the 'one we have been waiting for.'" - Dallas Woodhouse, NCGOP Executive Director

Information provided by the North Carolina State Board of Elections has proved the increased opportunity for North Carolinians to vote early.

The NCGOP credited the surge in Republican early voting numbers to efforts by NCGOP volunteers and RNC partners who have worked to greatly improve Republican voter registration since 2012. In the last four years, from October 2012 to October 2016, Republicans have improved their voter registration compared to Democrats by 140,000, including GOP increases and massive Democrat losses.
