      Sunday, March 5, 2017       Welcome to Goose Creek       2:00 pm

    The presentation will introduce all of the wonderful things you can find at the park from recreational opportunities to our wonderful natural communities. Great for first time visitors or anyone wanting to get to know the park. Meet at the visitor center.

      Sunday, March 12, 2017       All About Bears       2:00 pm

    We will talk about the life history of bears, examine mounts, skulls and furs. Meet in the visitor center.

      Saturday, March 18, 2017       Totally Turtles       2:00 pm

    Meet at the visitor center to view some of eastern North Carolina’s most common species of turtles. We will discuss habits, lifestyles and share some of our turtles most interesting secrets. There will be live turtles to view.

      Sunday, April 2, 2017       Ticks, Chiggers and Mosquitos       2:00 pm

    Learn about everyone’s least favorite critters, how to avoid them, get rid of them and what diseases they can potentially carry. Meet at the visitor center.

      Saturday, April 8, 2017       Palmetto Boardwalk Hike       10:00 am

    Take a one-mile walking tour of the boardwalk and view a freshwater swamp that is transitioning to a brackish water marsh all without getting your feet wet. Meet at the visitor center.

      Saturday, April 15, 2017       Snakes Galore       2:00 pm

    With the warm weather approaching, it’s the perfect time to learn about our native snakes. We will cover multiple topics such as identification tips and how to cohabitate with these amazing creatures. There will be live snakes throughout the program. Please meet in the visitor center.

      Saturday, April 22, 2017       Earth Day Scavenger Hunt       11:00 am

    Meet at the visitor center to learn about Leave No Trace ethics on Earth Day and participate in a fun and interactive scavenger hunt. All ages are welcome. Wear sturdy shoes and be prepared to take a walk through the woods.

      Saturday, April 29, 2017       Mallard Creek Hike       2:00 pm

    Meet in the last parking lot for a short hike to Mallard Creek boardwalk and, conditions permitting, along the new proposed trail extension.

RALEIGH: Today, Governor Roy Cooper and North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (NCDNCR) Secretary Reid Wilson celebrated Earth Day by visiting Goose Creek State Park in Washington.
Invite those who hold the South dear, to honor those who gave their all to protect those that they loved from the tyranny of invasion and occupation, to participate in a memorial service at the Confederate Monument in Oakdale Cemetery
Washington, N.C. – The inaugural Rivers East Advanced Manufacturing Academy took place at Pitt Community College on Friday, September 23rd.

The Rivers East Workforce Development Board has been awarded a National Dislocated Worker Grant (NDWTG) in the amount of $275,000 to assist the employees of the QVC Rocky Mount Distribution Center that reside in the Rivers East region.
It began as a light rain Thursday night, January 20th, with temperatures a balmy 46 degrees, and by morning a thin layer of ice clung to the firm, bright reddish green Nandina leaves prevalent upon my personal grounds here in Mac'swood.
The renovated and recently revived Turnage Theater has fallen on some pretty hard times as of late, and is being forced to shutter its doors.
I love watching, and taking pictures of small beautiful things just as much as I love making images of wide sweeping vistas. It is all part of God's natural plan, and I am fortunate to have the opportunity to record it for all posterity.
