A class of sixth grade Financial Literacy students at PS Jones Middle School delivered a check and food supplies to our local animal shelter on Friday, January 20. The students created, formulated and presented a business plan to their principal for approval. Once approved, they implemented their business which was totally student operated. Each student helped prepare hand-made items of duct tape to sell and raise money for a local charity chosen by the class. They also enlisted the help of their schoolmates by asking for additional food donations for the animals. The business earned $120.00 and collected bags of cat and dog food that were donated as well. Students were able to present their donations and tour the facility with their teacher, Ms. Megan Moore and Principal, Mrs. Tracey Nixon. This experience allowed the students to increase their math skills and give back to the community. It was a fun and educational learning opportunity for all involved.
