   Publisher's note: I pray that these children realize just how fortunate they were to have a Sergeant Major from the Marine Corps, in their presence, to honor their accomplishments. In the Corps, Sergeant Majors are as rare as Brigadier Generals, and often more respected by the troops.

   John Small School and Sgt. Major Ryan Willhite from the US Marine Corp honored January’s Character Trait winners Tuesday, January 31, 2012. The students were chosen by their homeroom teachers for exhibiting Perseverance in the classroom and around the school. Sgt. Major Whillhite spoke to the students about the Marine Corp and being an instructor in Pitt County Community College’s Basic Law Enforcement Program.
