Special Filing Period Begins Monday for Two Judgeships | Eastern North Carolina Now

The State Board of Elections and Ethics Enforcement will hold a candidate filing period from noon July 9 to noon July 13 for Superior Court District 19D (Hoke and Moore counties) and District Court District 20A (Montgomery and Stanly counties)

    RALEIGH, N.C.     The State Board of Elections and Ethics Enforcement will hold a candidate filing period from noon July 9 to noon July 13 for Superior Court District 19D (Hoke and Moore counties) and District Court District 20A (Montgomery and Stanly counties).

    Session Law 2018-121 made changes to those districts and required the special filing period. According to the law, "only residents of Montgomery County may be candidates for the additional judge in District Court District 20A in the 2018 election..."

    Candidates wishing to run for those seats must file their Notice of Candidacy with the State Board and pay a filing fee. (For Superior Court, $1,326; for District Court, $1,167)

    Candidates may file in person at the State Board office, 430 N. Salisbury St., Raleigh. They also may mail their notarized filing paperwork and fee to: State Board of Elections and Ethics Enforcement, P.O. Box 27255, Raleigh, NC 27611-7255. Mailed documents must be received by the State Board during the filing period.

    Candidates are reminded that they must receive certification from their county board of elections before filing with the State Board. Judicial candidates also must include their North Carolina State Bar number on their Notice of Candidacy.
