Vidant Cancer Care-Edgecombe opens in Tarboro | Eastern NC Now

    Tarboro, N.C.     July 26, 2018       It's a diagnosis no one wants to receive-"You have cancer."

    Cancer is the leading cause of death in eastern North Carolina, and Vidant Cancer Care is dedicated to changing that. Vidant Cancer Care-Edgecombe is the latest realization of that commitment and a testament to the importance of providing affordable care close to home.

    The new 5,000-square-foot facility will provide outpatient cancer services, featuring healing gardens, eight infusion chairs, two private infusion rooms, private exam rooms and image renewal services to help patients look their best.

    "We are delighted to open Vidant Cancer Care-Edgecombe," said Wick Baker, president of Vidant Edgecombe Hospital. "We are committed to turning the tide against cancer in eastern North Carolina. This new facility is the latest demonstration of our dedication to this important fight."

    The total cost of construction and equipping Vidant Cancer Care-Edgecombe is $2.5 million. Approximately $425,000 has been funded through philanthropy for construction, equipment and programmatic support.

    Vidant Cancer Care-Edgecombe is part of the Vidant Cancer Care network. With a core at the Eddie and Jo Allison Smith Tower in Greenville, patients will benefit from access to the latest advances, research and technology with close-to-home options for ongoing treatment. The end result is care that is convenient, comprehensive and current.

    "The mission of Vidant Cancer Care is to provide cancer education, screening and early detection, timely intervention and patient coordination to improve cancer outcomes in our region," said Dr. Emmanuel Zervos, executive director of Vidant Cancer Care. "It is truly exciting to see our strategy in improving cancer outcomes realized in Edgecombe County at this new facility."

    Vidant Cancer Care-Edgecombe will also be able to connect to teams in Greenville through conference room technology, enabling real-time collaboration with experts who are gathered in one location. They will be able to view scans and patient records to ensure each patient receives the best recommended treatment plan for his or her specific case.
