Who Says The Wool Has Been Pulled Over My Eyes? I Don’t See The Wool. | Eastern North Carolina Now

In modern discussions (usually arguments) rebuttals don't have to make sense.

This Blog Posting was published in Foolishness...Or Is It? (forii.blogspot.com) 8 years ago but its irrefutable logic is still irrefutable...Or is it?...

In winning an argument nowadays the important thing is to have an answer and any answer will do.

Our local big name newspaper has recently impressed upon me the importance of the rebuttal. It is not important that the rebuttal makes sense. It is only important that the rebuttal rebuts.

It seems that there are those amongst us here in Georgia who are looking to have the drinking age lowered to 18 years. (Could it be that the people that sell hard liquor and beer are behind this?) When they that want the drinking age lowered to 18 are confronted with a questioner seeking to broaden his knowledge of The Drinking Age Question, it appears that the answer most often given is, "In order to reduce binge drinking".

There it is. This is the Nonsensical Rebuttal. The person to whom this answer is given is usually too confused to have a well organized come back. They find themselves befuddled and, by the time they are able to formulate a "Yea, but...", the conversation has moved on to other topics.

This Drinking Age Question has gotten me to "thinking". Let us expand on the Nonsensical Rebuttal and venture into other areas of human endeavor...
•Car Industry ... You need to buy this here Gigantic Gas Guzzling SUV, so you can save gas.
•Fast Food Chain ... You need to eat our Super Sized Burger and Fries, so you can lose weight.
•Members of Congress ... You need to vote for me every time I come up for re-election and keep me in Congress for 30 years, so I will not become complacent and take your vote for granted.

OK, I may have gotten carried away with this bit of Foolishness ... Or did I?

    Would I kid u?
