RALEIGH: Governor Roy Cooper kicks off the 3rd Annual Governor's School Supply Drive next week to encourage school supply donations for public-school students and teachers across the state. On average, teachers spend about $500 of their own money on supplies for their classrooms each year.

"The next time you're at the store, consider adding a few extra school supplies to your cart to donate," said Gov. Cooper. "The right supplies are vital to a successful school year for students and teachers. Many teachers are already working extra jobs to make ends meet and should not have to dip into their own pockets to pay for school supplies."

ABOUT GOVERNOR COOPER'S SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE

Governor Cooper's School Supply Drive will run from Monday, July 29th to Friday, August 16th, 2019.

    Supplies requested for donation include:

  • Paper - all types, including copy paper
  • Pens & Pencils
  • USB Flash Drives
  • Dry Erase Markers
  • Folders
  • Sanitizing Wipes
  • Tissues

Donation bins will be available in state government buildings, businesses that partner with the North Carolina Business Committee on Education, and all North Carolina State Employees Credit Unions locations in every county in North Carolina. Cooper encourages North Carolina residents to participate by donating at a participating location or by organizing a drive at their own workplaces.

As the drive wraps up, North Carolina communities in Schools, AmeriCorps volunteers, and Governor Cooper's cabinet will help distribute the supplies to classrooms across the state.

Governor Cooper's School Supply Drive is offered in partnership between the North Carolina Governor's Office, the North Carolina Business Committee on Education and its partners, VolunteerNC, State Employees Credit Union, and Communities In Schools of North Carolina.
