For Immediate Release:

School Bus Drivers Take to the Road Course for Annual Competition

Jimmy Ward, who is completing his 15th year as a school bus driver for Beaufort County Schools, made it back to back wins by placing first in the 2012 BCS School Bus Rodeo on April 26. Ward won the local competition last year and went on to compete at the regional and state levels. He has placed in the top three slots five of the past seven years.

The fact that Ward made it a repeat win was no surprise to Jerry Wynne, Transportation Director for Beaufort County Schools. “Jimmy’s consistency on the road course is just an illustration of the care he takes as a driver every day and speaks greatly to his overall work ethic.”

Derrick Brimage, who drives for P.S. Jones Middle School, took second place.

First and second place winners will advance to the district level competition on May 3 at Nash Central High School. Winners at the regional level will then go to the state competition in Raleigh at the end of this month. While not on his route, Ward is a custodian at Washington High School. Brimage is also a custodian. He is assigned to P.S. Jones Middle School.

Thirty drivers participated in this year’s competition.
