Richard Grenell Calculates James Comey With Release of Susan Rice Email, Experts Predict an Indictment | Eastern North Carolina Now

Richard Grenell, the outgoing Acting Director of National Intelligence, has thrust former FBI Director James Comey back into the crosshairs with the recent declassification and release of the email Obama administration National Security Adviser Susan Rice wrote to herself on President Donald Trump's Inauguration Day.

President Barack Obama had an Oval Office meeting on January 5, 2017 with Rice, Comey, Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, and Vice President Joe Biden to discuss how much to tell Trump and his team about Russia's election meddling. Rice subsequently sent an email to herself on January 20 that read Obama "said he wants to be sure that, as we engage, with the incoming team, we are mindful to ascertain if there is any reason that we cannot share information fully as it relates to Russia."

Also within Rice's email it was noted that Comey was worried about sharing classified information with the Trump team, considering incoming National Security Adviser Michael Flynn's conversations with a Russian ambassador. Most of the email was previously declassified in February per a Republican Senate request; however, the newly declassified portion released by Grenell reveals Comey's response.

Comey had responded by saying he was proceeding "by the book" and that he was concerned Flynn was still in contact with the Russian ambassador, noting that their "level of communication is unusual." When then-President Obama asked if the intelligence community should withhold information from Flynn, Comey responded, "Potentially."

After Grenell's release last week of the full Rice email, former U.S. prosecutor Joe diGenova called it a "confession with footnotes." Mr. diGenova has previously stated that the purpose of that Oval Office meeting on January 5, 2017 was to discuss the counterintelligence investigations about the incoming president. "Barack Obama knew that James Comey was going to blackmail the incoming president of the United States," diGenova said in a recent Fox News interview.

This week, in an interview with Fox News' Gregg Jarrett, diGenova reminded viewers that Rice was instructed by White House counsel Neil Eggleston to craft the email to herself. "It had nothing to do with anything other than covering their fannies and blame-shifting to James Comey, who I predict will be indicted," diGenova stated.

Perhaps this explains why Mr. Comey has lost his snarky "holier than thou" attitude he's displayed on social media over the past couple of years. He's been awfully quiet lately. His last tweet was on May 7 and reads, "The DOJ has lost its way. But, career people: please stay because America needs you. The country is hungry for honest, competent leadership."

Motivational speaker Tony Robbins once said, "In life you need either inspiration or desperation." One quick glance at Comey's Twitter account shows a distinct evolution of inelegant and awkward "inspirational" posts to seemingly desperate pleas to his fellow bureaucrats to "stay strong." Albeit rather comical, it's an uncomfortable read as things appear to be coming to a head for the coup clan.

Former Acting DNI Director Grenell did so much good or so much damage depending on where one stands on obtaining the real truth on extra-substantive issues.

Rick Grenell had a real good run with the Trump Administration, starting with Ambassador to Germany; Ambassador to the UN; then Acting DNI Director.

He is a true patriot fro doing the right thing. God bless him.
