Focuses much attention on leave and overtime policies

At its workshop meeting Monday (6-25-12) the Washington City Council reviewed proposed changes to the City's Personnel Policies. We realize not many of our readers will be interested in the voluminous material or the discussion. But we are aware that a number of City employees will be. So we are posting the video of the discussion below. To review the printed material click here.

The first video includes, among other things, a discussion of overtime policies. Overtime, as pointed out by Mayor Pro Tem Bobby Roberson, is a major issue. He states during the meeting that last year it amounted to about a half million in costs for the city. For some employees overtime has been a way to take home more pay in times when raises have come few and far between. And for department heads overtime is sometimes used to make up for a shortage of positions. And still others don't like having to work overtime, even with higher pay. The first part of the discussion on overtime is related to hourly employees in the first video clip. In the second clip below they move on the "exempt" employees and here it focuses on "comp time."

The second clip completes the review of the personnel policies and the adjournment.
