Vice President Mike Pence reportedly called Vice-President Elect Kamala Harris on Thursday to congratulate her on her win.

This call is the first known contact between the elected members of Donald Trump administration and the incoming Joe Biden administration, according to The Associated Press. Someone familiar with the conversation described it as a "good call," with Pence congratulating his successor and offering assistance in the transition in any way he can.

This comes after it was revealed by the Department of Justice that some of the rioters who stormed the Capitol last week intended to capture and assassinate Pence and other elected officials for refusing to name Trump the victor.

"Every American needs to understand what the Department of Justice has just made public: Investigators have strong evidence to suggest that some of the rioters who stormed the United States Capitol planned to kidnap and possibly assassinate the Vice President," Republican Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse said in a statement, according to The Daily Caller. "These men weren't drunks who got rowdy — they were terrorists attacking this country's constitutionally-mandated transfer of power."

This also comes less than a week before Biden is set to be inaugurated. Though Trump has said that he will not be attending, Pence is expected to be going.

"It's a good thing, him not showing up," Biden said, going on to criticize Trump for the Capitol riots.

"He exceeded even my worst notions about him," he said. "He's been an embarrassment to the country."

Biden seems to feel differently about Pence, however.

"He's welcome," Biden said of Pence. "I think it's important that as much as we can stick to what have been the historical precedents of how an administration changes should be maintained. And so Mike, the vice president, is welcome to come. We'd be honored to have him there, and to move forward in the transition."
