ECU To Host NCAA Soccer Championships | Eastern North Carolina Now

    GREENVILLE, N.C.     East Carolina University's Johnson Stadium will be one of nine venues to host NCAA Championship postseason soccer, following a recent announcement by the NCAA Division I Competition Oversight Committee.

    "We are so excited for Greenville and ECU to be welcoming the NCAA Tournament," said East Carolina Head Soccer Coach Jason Hamilton. "The impact it will have on the community will be great and anything that brings attention to the game is a positive for our program."

    East Carolina, slated to host games on April 28 and May 1, will welcome nine women's teams to Greenville for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championships. According to estimates from Visit Greenville, the economic impact on the local community from the tournament is projected to be just under $750,000.

    "We are excited to host nine schools from across the country and spotlight East Carolina University, our athletic facilities and local community," said East Carolina Athletics Director Jon Gilbert. "It's imperative we continue to look for different ways to have a positive impact on our community This event will generate local business and showcase everything our community has to offer."

    The action in Johnson Stadium will start with three games on Wednesday, April 28. Play will begin at 12 noon as Arizona State and Siena open up its postseason journeys. The second game of the day is slated for a 4 p.m., start with American Athletic Conference member Memphis taking on Utah Valley. The day will close with Ohio State and Stony Brook clashing at 8 p.m.

    Play will resume Saturday, May 1 with three teams arriving in Greenville to take on Wednesday's winning teams. No. 9 seed Duke will face either Arizona State or Siena at 12 noon, while No. 6 seed Arkansas will get Memphis or Utah Valley at 4 p.m., before No. 11 seed Santa Clara matches up with the Ohio State-Stony Brook winner.

    "This is a great opportunity for the university to be highlighted on a national stage," Hamilton added. "We have one of the best facilities in the country and not only will teams coming get to see that, but so will all the fans at home watching."

    NCAA Women's Soccer Championship tickets will be $10 with a limited number available to purchase at the box office. Each individual match will require a ticket. Due to COVID-19 protocols, all seats will be assigned and socially distant in pods of two.
