State Attorney General Josh Stein is recovering today from a "minor stroke." He shared details through his Twitter feed.

"Last night I had stroke-like symptoms after Anna and I walked our dog Jenny, so I went to the hospital," Stein, 55, wrote on social media. Anna is his wife. "Doctors confirmed that I had a minor stroke and performed a successful procedure to remove a small blood clot."

"I'm feeling back to normal now and am beyond blessed to have no lingering effects," Stein added. "My doctor wants me to stay here for another day or two to get some rest before I get back to work. Anna is my hero for recognizing that something was wrong and insisting that I go to the hospital."

"I also want to thank the EMTs for transporting me and the medical staff for their care. I have a tremendous amount to be thankful for this morning, especially my loving family. Just thinking of them makes my heart swell."

"I'm so grateful my wife knew the signs." Stein ends the Twitter thread with a link to the Centers for Disease Control's web page on "Stroke Signs and Symptoms."

Stein is serving his second four-year term as state attorney general. Before taking that job, he was elected to four terms in the N.C. Senate and served from 2009 through March 2016.

Political observers consider Stein the front-runner for the Democratic nomination in the 2024 governor's race.
