Actor Jeremy Renner shared a photograph over the weekend of his recovery following a tragic snow plow accident that he suffered earlier this month.

Renner was injured over the New Year's weekend in an attempt to help a stranded family member when his 14,330-pound snowcat machine ran over him. Renner was transported by helicopter from his home in Reno, Nevada, to Renown Regional Medical Center, the region's only trauma center, where it was determined he had suffered blunt chest trauma. A representative for Renner stated at the time, "He has returned from surgery and will remain in the intensive care unit in critical but stable condition."

Renner shared a photograph of himself in a hospital bed on Saturday from inside his home.

"I want to thank EVERYONE for their messages and thoughtfulness," Renner said. "Much love and appreciation to you all. These 30 plus broken bones will mend , grow stronger, just like the love and bond with family and friends deepens."

Renner said in an Instagram post this week that he was "missing my happy place" following the accident, an apparent reference to his Reno-area, Nevada, home.

Sources told Radar Online that Renner's road to recovery could take two years to complete and that Renner "almost bled out" at the scene of the accident.

"It's much worse than anyone knows. Jeremy is very aware of the fact that he almost died out there," one source said. "The right side of Jeremy's chest was crushed, and his upper torso had collapsed. He also had a bad head wound that was bleeding and a leg injury."

"He knew he was in bad shape and that he might not make it out of this," another source added.

A third insider stated, "Word is the damage to Jeremy's chest was so substantial it had to be reconstructed in surgery." Another source said Renner had undergone multiple surgeries.

"So far, he's had two surgeries and he will likely require more in the weeks ahead on his leg," the source said. "Doctors tend to space out operations to allow time for the body's natural healing process to kick in, and that's the case here."

"Jeremy's doing okay," one source opined. "He's pretty doped up and he's got tubes to help him breathe, but he's a fighter, and he's determined to get through this."
