An undercover video from a conservative news outlet reveals that several public school districts across North Carolina are teaching topics connected to Critical Race Theory.

The group Accuracy in Media released the video May 30 that contained comments from school staff in Rockingham County, Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, and Durham County Public Schools.

The school personnel admitted to teaching concepts on "white privilege, historical racial iniquities," and others. They also said teachers use an education subscription service called Newsela to obtain information. Newsela partners with leftist groups like the Southern Poverty Law Center and the New York Times' 1619 Project.

In March, the N.C. House voted along party lines to pass a bill meant to curb the teaching of elements of CRT in public schools.

House Bill 187 would ban the teaching of 13 discriminatory concepts in the classroom, including:

  • That one race or sex is inherently superior to another race or sex.
  • An individual, solely by virtue of his or her race or sex, is inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive.
  • An individual should be discriminated against or receive adverse treatment solely or partly because of his or her race or sex.
  • A meritocracy is inherently racist or sexist.
  • Particular character traits, values, moral or ethical codes, privileges, or beliefs should be ascribed to a race or sex, or to an individual because of the individual's race or sex.
