FFA Members Participate in FFA Day at the State Capitol | Eastern North Carolina Now

News Release:

Raleigh, North Carolina     Members of the Northside FFA Chapter participated in the inaugural FFA Day at the State Capital conducted by the North Carolina FFA Association on February 12, 2013.

"The purpose of this event is to expose and educate students on state government, current issues, citizenship, advocacy, and civic engagement," said Jason Davis, State FFA Coordinator. "Students that participate in this conference are not only the future leaders of our organization, but citizens and leaders in our state. FFA Day at the State Capital is a great opportunity for FFA members to develop their potential as leaders for the future of agriculture," states Davis.

A highlight of the conference was a panel produced and directed by Mr. Tom Campbell based on the TV show, NC SPIN. Tom and his cast of political panelists debated current issues on youth, education, and agriculture. At the conclusion of their discussion, students were allowed to weigh in and even provided the panelists with questions.

Kaitlyn Tetterton, Haze Daw, Amanda Godley and their Agriculture Teacher and FFA Advisor, Ashley Yopp Stewart concluded the event with a visit to the State Capitol to meet with Representative Paul Tine and Senator Bill Cook.

The North Carolina FFA is a youth organization of 19,301 student members preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture with 252 local chapters across the state. FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
