Five people were killed over the weekend in Plum, Pennsylvania, after a house exploded in a neighborhood, according to local officials.

The Plum Police Department and fire department responded to an explosion on Saturday that destroyed several homes and damaged nearly a dozen more.

Ring doorbell footage from a home down the street captured the moment that the house exploded.

Investigators have not yet released any information on the cause of the explosion.

Steve Imbarlina, assistant chief of Allegheny County Emergency Services, said it could take "months, if not years" to determine what caused the explosion.

"Lori and I are praying for family, friends, and neighbors who lost someone in Plum yesterday, and we're grateful for the first responders who ran towards danger to save lives," said Pennsylvania Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro. "The five Pennsylvanians who passed and their families are in our thoughts today. May their memories be a blessing."

Imbarlina said several people were hospitalized after the explosion, and dozens of firefighters received treatment for minor injuries.

"That could have been anything from a strain sprain to heat-related issues," he said. "They were treated on scene and returned back to duty and re-entered the effort."

Local officials said electricity and gas services had been temporarily shut off in the neighborhood.

People living in the community expressed shock over the incident, saying they could not believe it happened in their neighborhood.

"I still can't believe it," said Jason Decheck. "You see this stuff, and when it's this close, you don't even know what to think. These are your neighbors ... you may not know them all, but this is a really tight community."
